The Pro 28 mm Inline Magnetic Filter is a central heating system protection device designed to remove and retain both ferrous (magnetic) sludge and other debris circulating in the heating water. It helps protect key components such as the boiler heat exchanger, pump, valves, and radiators from blockages and wear caused by metallic particles and sludge.

Function & Purpose

This magnetic filter is installed inline on 28 mm pipework, typically on the flow or return leg of a central heating system close to the boiler or pump. As water circulates, the strong internal magnet attracts and holds ferrous particles (like rust and iron oxide), preventing them from continuing around the system. Non-magnetic debris is also slowed and captured within the filter chamber. Periodically draining the filter flushes out trapped debris, helping maintain cleaner system water and improved system efficiency.

Compatibility

The Pro 28 mm Inline Magnetic Filter is suitable for heating systems that use 28 mm pipework, which is common in larger domestic systems and some light commercial installations. It can be used with combi, system, and conventional boilers when installed with the correct fittings and connections.

Design & Build Quality

Constructed from durable materials suitable for typical heating system pressures and temperatures, this magnetic filter features a robust body and a powerful internal magnet that doesn’t require electrical power. The drainage point (purge or drain valve) allows easy removal of trapped debris during maintenance without dismantling the unit.

Key Benefits

Installing a magnetic filter on your heating system offers several advantages, including improved circulation, quieter pump operation, more even radiator heating, and reduced risk of component failure due to debris. By keeping the system water cleaner, the filter can help maintain efficiency and lower overall servicing costs over the life of the boiler and heating circuit.

Ideal Applications

The Pro 28 mm Inline Magnetic Filter is ideal for central heating systems with 28 mm pipework where active protection against sludge and metallic debris is required. It’s commonly fitted:

  • During new system commissioning

  • As part of a boiler upgrade

  • In existing systems showing signs of sludge build-up

  • As preventative maintenance

For optimal performance, it should be installed and periodically maintained by a qualified heating engineer.
